![]() ![]() A study recently published by an international team of scientists in the journal Nature, suggests that TRAPPIST-1 c is wildly inhospitable. The James Webb Space Telescope just got a very close look at TRAPPIST-1 c, a rocky exoplanet located roughly 40 light-years away in the TRAPPIST-1 star system.īut before you get your hopes up, it's exceedingly unlikely the planet can harbor alien life, let alone become a new home for humanity. "And I've told my team I'm planning to be the director of planetary science when we discover life in the solar system."It is extraordinary that we can measure this." Eye Spy "The science community is making enormous progress," he said. Grunsfeld said he believes that life beyond Earth will be found by the next generation of scientists and space explorers, but Green said he hopes it is sooner than that. "Once we get beyond Mars, which formed from the same stuff as Earth, the likelihood that life is similar to what we find on this planet is very low," he said. NASA associate administrator John Grunsfeld, said part of what excites him most about the search for life beyond our planet is to see what that life looks like. "We are not just studying water and habitability in our solar system, but also looking for it in planets around other stars," he said. Paul Hertz, director of astrophysics at NASA, talked about how future telescopes already in the works will help scientists scan the atmospheres of large rocky planets around distant stars for chemical markers of life. "Mars does not have a significant magnetic field, so it lets the wind strip away the water and atmosphere," he said. Newmark described how NASA is learning more about the role of Earth's magnetic field in protecting our planet's water and atmosphere from being blown away by the solar wind, thereby playing a role in the ability for life to develop. "I don't know what we are going to find there," he said. He also talked NASA's plans for a mission to Europa, another moon of Jupiter with an icy ocean. "We are finding out the solar system is really a soggy place." "We now recognize that habitable zones are not just around stars, they can be around giant planets too," Green said. (A body considered to in a habitable zone is not too hot or too cold for liquid water to exist on its surface.) The findings suggest that previous ideas about where to find "habitable zones" may have been too limited. Green also described another recent study that used measurements of aurora on Jupiter's moon Ganymede to prove it has a large liquid ocean beneath its icy crust. She added that getting human field geologists and astrobiologists on Mars would greatly improve the chances of finding fossils of past life on our nearest planetary neighbor. ![]() ![]() "We think that long period of time is necessary for life to get more complex," Stofan said. Over the course of an hourlong presentation, NASA leaders described a flurry of recent discoveries that suggest we are closer than ever to figuring out where we might find life in the solar system and beyond.įor example, Jim Green, director of planetary science at NASA, cited a study that analyzed the atmosphere above Mars' polar ice caps and suggests that 50 percent of the planet's northern hemisphere once had oceans up to a mile deep, and that it had that water for a long period of time - up to 1.2 billion years. "We are not talking about little green men," Stofan said. However, if visions of alien invasions are dancing in your head, you can let those go. Jeffery Newmark, interim director of heliophysics at the agency put it this way: "It's definitely not an if, it's a when." "We know where to look, we know how to look, and in most cases we have the technology," she said. "I believe we are going to have strong indications of life beyond Earth in the next decade and definitive evidence in the next 10 to 20 years," Ellen Stofan, chief scientist for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, said at a public panel Tuesday in Washington. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() It was intelligent and asked you how you feel about these things and how you respond to them. I really respect the way that they went for the edginess in the show and that wasn't purely for shock value. "It challenged me to open my mind even more. ![]() I had no idea it was going to test me as a viewer getting through the material," Wendee said, pointing out Faye's encounter with Gren in episodes 12 and 13 of the series as a stand-out. "I thought it was amazingly cool, like the Western, rock-and-roll, cool jazzy appeal that the show had from the beginning. Although the voice cast notes that they're glad to hear their performances helped make it a big hit, they credited the show's universal story that was ahead of its time in the 1990s and 2000s as a reason it ultimately stood the test of time. The show would continue to have success long after its premiere, even returning for multiple full runs on Adult Swim. "If the dub was raggedy, we probably wouldn't be sitting here now 20 years later." " so much pride and thankfulness," said Beau Billingslea. And years later, the voice cast can't believe how big it still is. The show's iconic premise about bounty hunters AKA cowboys running around in space became an instant hit. And that's amazing for a show that's over 20 years old to still be that." "I hear that over and over again, at conventions all over the world. "People are still saying that this is their entry point into anime, after all these years, as they share it with family members and friends who just refuse to watch anime," noted Steve Blum, who plays Spike. As the first anime aired in that late-night block, it introduced the genre to a new audience. Little did the voice cast know that the show would be kick off something huge: the addition of anime in Cartoon Network's Adult Swim lineup. I still run into some purists out there, but I haven't heard any criticism of our dub," said Beau Billingslea, who voices Jet Black. "It helped us convert some of the fans of subs to the dubs. To this day, Cowboy Bebop is considered one of the greatest dubbed anime series ever. If we could get that word out to production companies that we love so much, maybe that would make a big difference on many more series to come," added Faye Valentine's voice actress Wendee Lee. So they push us very, very hard creatively to deliver those lines as fast as you freakin' can. "Anime productions don't have very big budgets. Thank God we had that extra time, because look, it stood the test of time." "We got to create a little more and there was a special nuance to it since we were given that little breath to really play with our characters and bring more life into them. You have to be in and out in two hours, and you have 60 loops to do," said Melissa Fahn, who plays Edward. Usually, when we go in and record and dub on a dubbing project, it's very quick. You go into the studio, you do your gig, and you say 'So long and I hope people watch it.' But with this show, we had the luxury of time. The original English voice cast then got together and started to record their lines, bringing the iconic series to life in a totally new way. Like many things in the United States, it took us a minute to take notice and it wasn't until 2000 that Cowboy Bebop was finally licensed by Bandai Entertainment for an English language adaptation. The original Japanese adaptation of Cowboy Bebop first came out in 1998 shortly after it was first released as a manga in 1997. If you don't believe me, then you can ask the original voice cast of Cowboy Bebop, who talked with Cosmopolitan about why this show is one of the greatest of all time to this day, how its history has impacted generations, and why right now is the perfect time to watch Cowboy Bebop as it rings in a new era. Not only did its themes and characters break boundaries when it comes to how anime is used as a form of storytelling, but the original Cowboy Bebop also contributed to the skyrocketing popularity of the genre in the United States. The original anime series was an absolute game-changer when it was first released, and it has only become more influential over time. There's a reason why Netflix's live-action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop is a very big deal. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() You’ll mainly find it in surprisingly high-grade and low-priced cut gemstones.
